March 1 - March 2
Our last day in Hoi An and An Bang. We decided to sit on the beach even though it was hazy. We thought this might be the last time for quite a while. We relaxed for a few hours then walked back to the An Bang Sunset Villa to shower and leave.
We said goodbye to Hue and Tuyet and got the cab to the train station. We thought we were ready for our night train ride to Hanoi. We had no idea how bad it was going to be. It turned out to be the ride to never be forgotten or repeated. It looked quite a lot nicer in the pictures online. The ride was so rough that we got no sleep. They only have 4 berth little rooms. Ron and I purchased the bottom bunks and every time the train stopped at a station we held our breath hoping we would not get roommates for the upper bunks. The folks next to us got two new " roommates" at a midnight stop. But the biggest difficulty was it was loud and literally rocked severely like with bad turbulence on a plane. And the bed was rock hard !!! AND the engine broke down so we had an hour wait while they brought in a new one. We were not allowed off the train. The trip ended up taking 19 1/2 hrs. YIKES !!!!
In the morning they did offer coffee....in a plastic cup with a straw ...lol
But we did see some beautiful scenery in the morning.
We were soooo tired by the time we got to our hotel. And for the rest of the night our bodies were rocking...equilibrium off 😝
Our room is not the best but it is clean and we have a little balcony. We ate sandwiches....binh mi..and went to bed early.
