March 4

Today we went exploring and walking again. First to an indoor market that we thought would be interesting. It was very bizzare. It was a huge building and the locals were frantic buying, packaging and transporting goods. We were literally pushed out of the way. Later when we got home, we checked the map and realized it was a wholesale outlet. But when we were there we did see this.. This ladies job was to take the "guts" out of these skinned frogs. She was really quick at it but I guess that was because she did it all day, every day. It was disgusting!!  These turtles were being killed too ....😫 This guy descaled the fish with a brush. We figured this particular fish must have sharp teeth because he had a metal spike in the fish's mouth to hold on to.  There were some very wide streets with beautiful large houses. These areas were from when the French overtook Vietnam. Many men sit on little stools and play this game. We're not sure but it seems like a combination of chess and checkers. As the picture shows the boards are well worn from use. Looking up to our balcony. Turns out that is the only good thing about this place....lol They are not really into safety. 😏 We also walked around two different lakes. We have been very impressed with the number of lakes and the areas around them. On the weekends they close the streets in the vicinity and all the local families come out to enjoy the space.  Many streets are dedicated to just one thing. Just a few examples of blocks we passed... metal work, cabinets, flowers, sunglasses, belts, shoes and the most bizarre a whole block of bamboo ladders. This block was selling all sewing accessories. They don't fool around with displaying the consequences of smoking.  Every corner has potential to be a place to eat. Then they set up these little chairs in front of their eateries. Later in the day they are full and overflowing. It seems everyone eats ourdoors and not at home. I guess it's more convenient and cheap.  We went to the night market. It is about a km. long with vendors on both sides.
