Feb 20
Today was a low key day as we were burned out and Ron had "loose" bowels 😬
We spent the day by the pool, catching up on emails and making more reservations for other cities.
It was actually quite nice to relax. At around 3:00 we took the tuk tuk into town to explore. We have found Siem Reap to be expensive compared to other places. We assume that is because their only draw is the ruins so the place is filled with tourists who are willing to pay.
We had a beer at a local restaurant...Ron is feeling better 😊 We met this lovely 19 year old Cambodian girl working there. Her name was Kaknika. She asked us if she could practice her English with us. She really wants to be a nurse but education is very expensive so she is trying to get better at English to work as a guide for the ruins. She was so lovely !!! If we were rich we would have paid for her schooling. She is motivated and will do well in whatever she chooses.
On our way back to get our tuk tuk we saw this ....selling bird houses ??? and brooms??? Not sure
Ron decided to get his feet cleaned...and you get a beer all for $2
We went into town for dinner. This restaurant, Genevieve's, was recommended to us by our favourite Khmer restaurant in Phnom Penh. We had to make reservations the day before.
I had chicken, cashews, veggies, rice and a spicy sauce. The portion was huge...for $5. I could only eat a third of it ☹️ Ron had Beef Lok Lak....slices of beef tenderloin marinated in sauce, with steamed rice and a fried egg in a red pepper. Mine was great but his was AMAZING 😋
