Feb 23

The tuk tuk driver took us into town so we could visit the Angkor National Museum. It is an archaeological museum with a collection of Angkorian artifacts, and information about art and culture of Khmer civilization, from the 9th to 14th-century. Most of the artifacts were discovered in and around the Angkor archaeological sites. It was amazing and we wished we had gone there first before visiting the sites. We had a little more understanding of the timelines of the Buddhist and Hindu religions that encompassed the sites. But there is so much symbolism that it was dfficult for us to keep it all straight. Photography was not allowed in the museum but this was outside. We walked back to the hotel for a bit of relaxation. The check out time was 12:00 but the hotel let us stay in our room until 6 when we needed to go to the airport. A horrific storm hit for 30 minutes..... thunder, lightning, rain and wind. The power went out, branches came down and everything flooded. A mango tree snapped and ended up in the pool. The people at the hotel said they had never seen a storm that severe. This was definitely the worst I have ever been in. We were thankful that we were at the hotel and not at the ruins. Cleanup of the mango tree that ended up in the pool.... We had one last drink at the bar and chatted with the staff. They were all amazing and we were sad to say goodbye. They were bowing as usual but we said that's not how we do it in Canada. So we gave them hugs. A few of them seemed awkward but they were all beaming. 😃 The flight from Siem Reap to DaNang was a bit bumpy but it was only an hour an a half. I didn't eat any but Ron said the food box sandwich and sweet were tasteless. We were surprised to get anything for such a short flight. A car from the hotel picked us up and we were glad because it was a lot farther than we thought. It took us 30 minutes to get to Ang Ban. We both said we liked riding in the tuk tuks more but they are only in Thailand and Cambodia 😕 The first impression of the homestay ...at 10 pm...is that the people were welcoming and the room is spacious and comfortable.  Poor Ron now has a bad cold 🤧. He's not doing well but never complains.
